Our brief was to provide a space where the client’s elderly mother could have uninterrupted views into the family’s beautifully manicured garden, maintain her independence whilst downsizing and still be connected to the family home and therefore her family. Our solution was to provide a large fully self-contained annexe, in keeping with the existing building, internally we used vaulted ceilings to enhance the room sizes, uninterrupted garden views via floor to ceiling windows in the living room, and direct through access into the family kitchen without having to exit either building but still providing separated access when required.
