On this project, our client commissioned us to design a spacious two-storey modern chalet style bungalow. Our solution was to create a building with an open plan kitchen/ dining room and a large central atrium to exploit the southwest-facing orientation of the proposed building, to fill the house with natural light throughout the year. Externally it was important to incorporate the features of the proposed buildings rural setting by using dark timber panels on the rear dormers, zinc cladding to the front atrium as a modern alternative to corrugated steel sheets, and slate tiles to match the surrounding vernacular.
